The Soundtrack to My Life (No. 1)

This is a series I am super stoked about. Music constantly reminds me of past memories and people who are/have been in my life. Through this new series, you can get a glimpse of what goes on in my head when I hear certain songs. I’ll be sharing the memories that have been etched into my brain and all the people that I may associate these songs with. I can’t think of a better way to share music and some of my most random + precious moments.

Every time I hear these songs, this is what I think of.

Let’s chat about the soundtrack to my life.

shot on Canon EF with 400tx film

The song that played on repeat about 100,000 times while Pauline and I got ready to go to the bar in Italy:

“I WANNA SEE SOME ASS” (feat. jetsonmade) by Jack Harlow

The song that was serenaded to me in Barcelona in the most awkward way by this random guy from Germany who asked me where Pauline and I were from and I responded with “California”:

“Hotel California” by Eagles

The song that played at every single frat party my friends and I would go to, which eventually led to me, Krystal, and Adora yelling, “IT’S OUR SONG!!!!!” whenever it played for the rest of our college years:

“Get Low” by Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, Ying Yang Twins

The song that played when Pauline and I took our friends on an electric boat in Newport Beach at golden hour:

“Baila Baila Baila - Remix” by Ozuna, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Farruko, Anuel AA

The song that played our first time in Rome, while sitting in the back seat of James’ car with Pauline to my left, Enrico to my right, Hussein in the passenger, and I felt like my life was a movie. I had no clue where we were going but the music was booming, windows were down, and he drove fast:

“I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE” by Måneskin

The song that played when Derek, Rudy and I got drunk in Rudy’s room and Rudy started singing to it through a toy microphone:

“Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Trap

The album that was on repeat my senior year of high school, especially at every ASB workday because Evin would put it on aux (this album forever brings back so much nostalgia for me):

“American Teen” by Khalid

The song that was released at the ass crack of dawn in 2012, which I woke up extra early for before school so that I can listen and cry to + force myself to memorize the lyrics by rewatching the Youtube lyric video about a million times because I was a dedicated…directioner…(which, by the way, I memorized the entire song in that one sitting. I have never memorized something so fast in my entire life…):

"Little Things" by One Direction

The song that I wrote the lyrics to on paper in 2008, which I eventually left in my parents’ bathroom for my dad to accidentally find, read, and later lecture me on how it was an inappropriate song for me to listen to at that age:

“Don’t Trust Me” by 3OH!3

We’ve reached the end of part one.

I have linked all the songs for you to get a better image and feel of the memory being shared. And yes, all the song links are through Spotify… If you don’t use Spotify, we’re going to have to have a conversation about that another time.

I thoroughly enjoyed writing this post as it fills me with all kinds of emotions. It’s bittersweet. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did writing it, and maybe some of these songs triggered some nostalgia for you, too :’)

Thank you for tuning into this series! It means the world to me.
