The Soundtrack to My Movie (No. 1)

Do you ever think about what the soundtrack to a movie about you would be? Very specific, I know…but I have. Let’s pretend I, Dionne, am the main character of this most epic, dramatic (but still epic), tear jerker of a movie. This award winning film is going to have romance, action, comedy…you name it. It’s not going to make sense—I am going to make up scenes, and it’s going to be all over the place, but it’s going to be the director’s job to fix it up and make it make sense. Anyway, I think this will be a fun way for us to share music.

Let’s chat about the soundtrack to my movie.

(I’d like to make a fair warning that this is not the soundtrack to my life—that is another series. This “movie” is completely made up and not based on my personal life whatsoever. Purely for amusement purposes. I’m either spitting information from my imagination or I may or may not be taking scenes I have seen in some movies or read from books).

The song that plays in the opening scene:

“Brother” by Habe

The song that plays in the getaway car after me and a group of friends trespassed an area that had a “NO TRESPASSING” sign:

“Ocean Drive” by Duke Dumont

The song that plays when my friend and I are driving through a tunnel and I’m standing in the back of a pick-up truck with my arms spread open (like Sam in Perks of Being a Wallflower):

“Free Spirit” by Khalid

The song that my friends and I are singing our hearts out to together on my favorite beach in O’ahu while we’re having a bbq with the most beautiful sunset surrounding us:

“If I Ever feat. J Boog” by Jah Maoli

The song that plays when I am sitting in the passenger seat of a vintage cream Chevrolet pickup truck with the windows down, my fingers dancing in the wind with the sun shining down, after a day spent at the lake:

“lakeshore” by Greyson Chance

The song that plays when I am partying in Mykonos, Greece:

“Hey” by FÄIS, Afrojack

The song that plays when I reminisce about my summer love:

“Stolen Dance” by Milky Chance

The song that plays when my friends pick me up late at night and we pull an allnighter out in the city doing anything and everything as the city lights glow its brightest at 3 A.M. under the moon and stars:

“Midnight City” by M83

The song that plays when reality finally hits me that I miss him…and I know I shouldn’t, but I do:

“Somebody Else” by The 1975

The song that plays when my friends and I rob a bank:

"Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes

The song that plays and makes me think “fuck it, let’s have some fun” when I enter the club I originally did not want to go to but was dragged out by my friends and now I don’t want to leave:

“Runaway (U & I)” by Galantis

The song that plays while I make eye contact with my love interest who’s across the room for the very first time in the club. The rest of the world is tuned out as the crowd somehow pushes us together and we have the time of our lives dancing with each other:

“Latch” by Disclosure, Sam Smith

The song that plays when me and my love interest discover that we can’t be together for whatever reason and we’re both heartbroken by this because we’re so in love:

“Me Rehúso” by Danny Ocean

The song that plays in my headphones when I’m walking the normal path I normally walk to get alone time and think about life. There’s a whole montage of videos of past moments and people in my life fading in and out to help visualize my emotional feelings:

“Chronicles (feat. H.E.R. & Lil Durk)” by Cordae, H.E.R., Lil Durk

The song that plays during the montage of me and my friends doing a cross-country roadtrip—messing with each other in the car, all of us sleeping on each other, sticking our heads and arms out the windows, standing up through the sunroof of the car as we drive down the highway in the middle of nowhere, stopping at pitstops, one of us having to pee on the side of the road because they couldn’t wait any longer, filming every little moment—especially the stupid ones—for the memories:

“Morocco” by Moon Taxi

There goes the first soundtrack to my “movie”

I have linked all songs through Spotify to help you get a better image of these “picture perfect” made-up movie scenes. Clearly, this movie is all over the place.

I’m a huge daydreamer and my imagination is constantly moving way faster than I can keep up with. I hope that through this, you’ve been able to play around with yours too and think about what music you’d incorporate into your “movie.”

Thank you so much, as always, for tuning in <3
